December 4 (SeeNews) - The European Commission said Slovenia needs to comply with European Union rules on passenger name record data, to improve its aviation security and to apply correctly the common rules on providing EU-wide multimodal travel information services.
In its December infringement package, published on Thursday, the Commission sent three reasoned opinions to Slovenia on thos issues, giving it two months to reply to the opinions, or risk being referred to the Court of Justice of the EU.
In the first reasoned opinion the Commission said that Slovenia has failed to communicate the adoption of national legislation which fully transposes the EU rules on the use of passenger name record data for the prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution of terrorist offences and serious crime.
The rules regulate the transfer of such information from airlines to EU states and its further processing exclusively for law enforcement purposes and in full respect of data protection safeguards.
In the second reasoned opinion, the Commission is urging Slovenia to approve its updated National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NASP), which has not been updated since 2016. In September, the Slovenian authorities indicated the country's Civil Aviation Authority has already drawn up an updated version of the NASP, but this version has not been formally adopted yet.
In the third opinion, the Commission called on Slovenia and several other EU member states to correctly apply the rules on providing EU-wide multimodal travel information services in order to help provide travellers with an overview of all travel options available to them, while highlighting the most sustainable ones.
In addition, the Commission sent a letter of formal notice to Slovenia, urging the country to improve the energy performance of buildings.
