November 1 (SeeNews) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has appointed Remon Zakaria as country head for Montenegro, it said.
Zakaria will succeed Jaap Sprey, who will be joining the European Commission in Brussels, the EBRD said in a statement on Friday.
"I am really looking forward to taking on this new role and working with the EBRD's great team on the ground. We will focus on strengthening the competitiveness of the country's private sector, enhancing its integration with regional markets, and accelerating Montenegro’s green economy transition. The country has a fantastic potential for renewables and we will work very hard to unlock these opportunities," Zakaria said.
Zakaria joined the EBRD’s Energy Efficiency and Climate Change team in April 2012 and in 2016 he moved to London to cover the southern and eastern Mediterranean region. Subsequently, he became responsible for a unit of Energy Efficiency and Climate Change specialists focused on green buildings.
To date, the EBRD has invested 700 million euro ($811 million) in 74 projects in Montenegro.
