January 26 (SeeNews) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is lending Serbia’s autonomous province of Vojvodina 12 million euro ($13 million) to improve energy efficiency in 80% of public buildings, the provincial government said.
The European Union will provide a grant of two million euro to fund the impementation of the project, the Vojvodina's government said in a press release on Tuesday.
“This is a big achievement for Vojvodina, we have provided funds for investments in an area that is among the most important on a global level. We allocated four million euro from our own resources last year for this purpose for nine buildings - in Vrbas, Subotica, Apatin and Novi Kneževac. With this loan and grant, the provincial government will invest a total of 16 million euros in increasing energy efficiency,” said the head of the local government, Igor Mirovic.
