August 5 (SeeNews) - Croatian regional water utility company Varkom has signed a 855 million kuna ($128.6 million/115.2 million euro) agreement for the upgrade and reconstruction of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Varazdin, the city council said.
The consortium consists of Germany's WTE Wassertechnik and GIS Aqua Austria, the city council said in a press release last week.
The upgrade and reconstruction of the WWTP in Varazdin, some 90 km north of Zagreb, is part of a larger project that includes the construction of a sewage network for the city and 10 surrounding municipalities.
The European Union Cohesion Fund will cover 71% of the funding for the project, 24% will come from Croatia's water utility company Hrvatske Vode and the environment ministry, while the local governments will finance 5.7%
The completion deadline for the project is October 2021, to be followed by a 12-month long test phase.
