October 12 (SeeNews) - Passenger numbers at Croatia's airports increased to 1.25 million in August, up 114% compared to the same month of 2020 when the spread of the coronavirus pandemic brought air travel to a standstill, official statistics showed on Tuesday.
The total number of landings and take-offs at Croatian airports rose 41% year-on-year in August, reaching 16,318, while cargo volumes increased by 29% on the year to 769 tonnes, the statistical office said in a statement.
However, compared to pre-pandemic levels, passenger traffic in August 2021 amounted to just 64% of the numbers recorded in August 2019, when the landings and take-offs totalled 19,847.
Split airport served the largest number of passengers in August, 491,000, up 81% from August last year, followed by the airport in Dubrovnik with 288,000 passengers and the Zagreb airport with 193,000 passengers.
The most significant international traffic in August - 242,000 passengers - was registered on routes to and from German airports, followed by airports in the UK, France, the Netherlands and Poland.
