April 6 (SeeNews) - ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 thermal power plant (TPP) said on Thursday it produced close to 10% of Bulgaria's total electricity production in the first three months of 2023.
The electricity generated by the lignite-fired power plant in the January-March period of this year is equivalent to the average consumption of nearly 1.2 million Bulgarian households, or some 40% of households in the country, ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 said in a press release.
The 908-MW power plant in southern Bulgaria is 73%-owned by UK-based wholesale power generation group ContourGlobal, which is owned by US private equity firm KKR. Bulgarian state-owned National Electricity Company holds the remaining 27% stake in ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 TPP.
