November 22 (SeeNews) - Czech energy group CEZ said on Thursday it has started trial operations at its 600 megawatt (MW) Fantanele-Cogealac wind park in Romania after connecting to the grid the last of the 240 turbines.
CEZ said in a statement Fantanele-Cogealac is the largest onshore wind park in Europe and can generate enough electricity to power more than 1.0 million Romanian households for a year.
Since the first wind turbine at the wind park - located in the Romanian province of Dobrudja, 17 kilometers from the Black Sea, was switched on in June 2010, the facility has produced 1.646 terawatt-hours of electricity.
CEZ acquired the project to build the Fantanele-Cogealac wind farm from Continental Wind Partners LLC in 2008 and has invested a total of 1.1 billion euro ($1.4 billion) in its development.
