November 20 (SeeNews) - The Bulgarian subsidiary of Danish brewer Carlsberg said on Monday that it is replacing its entire company fleet by investing in Toyota hybrid automobiles, as part of its goal to become a net zero company by 2040.
More than 200 new hybrid electric cars will replace existing vehicles in the company's fleet by the end of 2023, Carlsberg Bulgaria said without disclosing the value of the investment.

The selected models of Toyota hybrid cars ensure reduction of CO2 emissions and almost completely silent driving for up to half of the time spent on the road, the brewer said, adding that it reduced by 24% its carbon emissions between 2015 and 2022, eliminating 58,000 tonnes of CO2.
In 2022-2023, Carlsberg Bulgaria introduced over 6,000 energy-saving coolers, and improved brewing and packaging processes using more glass bottles. Additionally, it installed 640 solar photovoltaic panels at its brewery in Blagoevgrad, southwestern Bulgaria, which cover 7% of energy use during production.
However, the company acknowledged a notable increase in its Scope 3 emissions, or the supply chain carbon footprint, arising from the distribution and transportation of raw materials, primarily due to imports from other countries. A substantial growth in production volumes in Bulgaria has also led to a rise in the brewer's carbon emissions.
