July 18 (SeeNews) - Production of sunflower seed in Bulgaria is projected to hit a 24-year high of 2.08 million tonnes in 2017, the European Commission's agriculture directorate has said.
The forecast sunflower seed output in Bulgaria in 2017 will be 15.7% higher year-on-year, which is the highest rate of increase among EU member states, the Agriculture and Rural Development Directorate said in a report last week.

In 2017, sunflower yield in Bulgaria is expected to increase by 16.7% year-on-year to 2.6 tonnes per hectare, the directorate said.
Bulgaria's wheat output is expected to fall by 6.4% to 5.25 million tonnes in 2017, from the 24-year high of 5.6 million tonnes produced in 2016. Wheat yield is expected to edge up 0.4% to 4.8 tonnes per hectare this year.
Bulgaria is expected to produce 2.8 million tonnes of maize in 2017, up by 25.4% compared to the previous year. Maize yield is seen 25.1% higher at 6.8 tonnes per hectare in 2017.
