February 26 (SeeNews) - Sofiyska Voda, the water utility serving Sofia municipality, said it plans to invest 40 million levs ($22.2 million/20.4 million euro) in digital innovations in the management of the water network of the Bulgarian capital and in overall improvement of the city's water infrastructure.
A big part of this investment is intended for construction of a new water supply network and for rehabilitation of the existing one, the water utility said in a statement on Tuesday.
Sofiyska Voda plans to carry out repairs on over 40 kilometres of water mains along with the implementation of several water infrastructure projects on the territory of the municipality.
"Our main focus now is on the renovation of the capital's water network and on the digital water management," Vasil Trenev, CEO Sofiyska Voda, said in the statement.
This year, Sofiyska Voda will become the first water utility company in Bulgaria to implement a digital system for daily monitoring of water levels, it said.
Sofiyska Voda was established in October 2000 under a 25-year concession contract for the operation and maintenance of Sofia's water supply and sewerage system. France's Veolia Water owns 77.1% of the company's capital, while the Sofia municipality holds a stake of 22.9%, according to data published by Sofiyska Voda.
