By comparison, new passenger car registrations in the European Union (EU) fell by 15.4% year-on-year in June, marking an eleven-month downward trend as supply chain disruptions affected vehicle production.
"With 886,510 units registered, this is the lowest month of June on record (in terms of volume) since 1996. All four major EU markets [Germany, Italy, France, Spain] contributed to the fall," ACEA said.
Compared to the January-June period of 2021, new passenger cars registered in the 27-member bloc were 14% fewer, totalling slightly over 4.6 million.
In the EU12, which comprises countries that became EU members after 2004, new passenger car registrations declined by an annual 12.2% to 106,183 in June. As many as 570,109 in the first half of 2022, EU12 registrations were 8.2% fewer than in June 2021, ACEA data showed.
