October 6 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's caretaker finance ministry said it has published for public consultation a draft bill to extend into next year the period of levying 9% value-added tax on certain goods and services, lower than the standard rate of 20%.
The draft bill also envisages expanding the range of baby foods eligible for lower VAT rate, the caretaker finance ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.
A 9% VAT is currently levied on books, food, non-alcoholic drinks, wine and beer served in establishments, general baby foods and diapers.
For the proposed legislation to be passed, Bulgaria needs a functioning parliament, which can only be formed after the November 14 early general election.
