June 15 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's government said on Wednesday it has approved a 44 million lev ($25.3 million/22.5 million euro) additional funding for the construction of a fence at the Turkish border.
"The fence is of crucial importance for countering the constantly increasing in recent years migration pressure at the Bulgarian-Turkish border and seeks to protect the state border and control the refugee wave," the government's press office said in a statement.
The funding will be used for the construction of 61 km of barbed wire fence.
The total length of the fence is 270 km, of which the construction of 170 km should be completed by end-July, according to News.bg.
