March 9 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's Road Infrastructure Agency said that state-owned company Avtomagistrali is expected to complete the 50 million levs ($29.2 million/25.6 million euro) repair of Bulgaria's longest motorway tunnel - Vitinya tunnel on Hemus motorway, in the second half of 2020.
The repairs were launched as last year checks established that the tunnel's condition does not adhere to the minimum safety requirements of the Trans-European Transport Network, the government agency said in a statement.
Works on the tunnel include new insulation, drainage system, fire alarms, ventilation, video surveillance, lighting, and traffic lights.
Built in 1984, the Vitinya tunnel totals 1,195 metres in length, making it the longest motorway tunnel in the country.
