February 2 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria marked the highest annual increase in battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales among EU member states in Southeast Europe (SEE) in 2022, of 131% to 1,002 units, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) said.
Among the EU countries in SEE, Romania reported the biggest volume of sales of BEVs last year, at a total of 11,638, followed by Greece with 2,827, ACEA said in a press release on Wednesday. In the EU as a whole, registrations of BEVs amounted to 1.1 million in 2022, up 28% on the year.
In terms of petrol car sales, Bulgaria recorded the highest increase in the EU, of 18% to 21,064 units. The country was also the only one among EU member states to register a rise in diesel vehicle registrations, of 4.9% to 5,764 units.
Within the EU, the market share of BEVs expanded to 12% of all new car registrations in the review period, a 3.0 percentage point increase from a year earlier. Petrol-fueled cars held the biggest share, at 36%, followed by hybrid electric vehicles with 23% and diesel vehicles with 16%.
