BUCHAREST (Romania), November 3 (SeeNews) – Romanian share indices lost ground for a second straight day as bearish sentiment gripped the local and foreign markets, brokers said.
The blue-chip BET index of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, fell 1.86% to 4,384.96 points. The BET-FI, which tracks the country's five regional investment funds, the SIFs, was the worst-performing index, dropping 2.9% to 20,069.72 points.
The composite BET-C index lost 2.33% to 2,579.26. The ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, fell 1.55% to 9,234.35.
"Buyers were pretty reluctant today, considering the falls on the international markets, but they were probably also taking into account the economic and political situation in Romania. The mood is one of uncertainty. We are waiting to see how the parliament will vote tomorrow on the new cabinet," one broker told SeeNews.
Romania's parliament is expected to vote on Wednesday on a new government line-up proposed by prime minister-designate Lucian Croitoru.
BVB's turnover nudged down to 19 million lei ($6.5 million/4.4 million euro) from 19.7 million lei on Monday. The number of traded shares was up to 32.7 million from 30.1 million on Monday.
SIF 2 Moldova sank 3.23% to 0.9 lei in the day's largest turnover of 2.7 million lei. SIF 5 Oltenia shed 2.86% to 1.02 lei on deals worth 2.6 million lei, Tuesday’s second largest turnover. Blue-chip oil and gas group OMV Petrom closed 2.72% lower at 0.25 lei on the regular market in the session’s third largest turnover of 2.4 million lei.
Blue-chip lender BRD was down 1.59% to 12.4 lei in 1.7 million lei turnover, while the other blue-chip bank, Banca Transilvania, slid 1.1% to 1.79 lei in deals worth 1.3 million lei. Austria’s Erste Bank edged down 0.08% to 120.5 lei in turnover of 1.3 million lei.
SIF 3 Transilvania sank 4.88% to 0.585 lei in 2.1 million lei turnover. SIF 1 Banat Crisana ended 1.5% lower at 0.985 lei in deals worth 1.0 million lei, and SIF 4 Muntenia backed off 1.57% to 0.625 lei in 599,000 million lei turnover.
Blue-chip brokerage SSIF Broker tumbled 6.33% to 0.207 lei in deals worth 454,000 lei.
The BET-XT index, which tracks the 25 most liquid companies on the bourse, including the SIFs, fell 2.35% to 418.08 points. The BET-NG, which includes companies from the energy sector and utilities, was down 2.02% to 572.92 points.
Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the over-the-counter market RASDAQ, fell 1.26% to 2,191.46. Turnover on the RASDAQ rose to 643,000 lei from 436,000 lei on Monday.
