BUCHAREST (Romania), September 1 (SeeNews) – The indices of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, continued to drift lower on Tuesday in calm trading and in line with movements on the international bourses, brokers said.
The blue-chip BET index of the BVB fell 1.45% to 4,187.42 points, while the BET-FI, which tracks the country's five regional investment funds, the SIFs, dropped 1.67% to 21,135.97 points.
The composite BET-C index lost 1.38% to 2,484.40 and the ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, ended 1.51% lower at 8,885.63.
“Today's session was weak in terms of trading volumes. We continue to feel the influence of bourses abroad, and that of the U.S. market in particular,” Ion Milea, a broker with Muntenia Global Invest, told SeeNews.
“At the moment there are not many investors. They are probably waiting for a sign if this correction will last or if the stocks will mount a fightback. The tip-off, which will be a macroeconomic indicator, would again come from the U.S.,” he said.
BVB's turnover slumped to 21.5 million lei ($7.3 million/5.1 million euro) from 63.2 million lei on Monday. The number of traded shares, however, increased to 56.5 million from 45.2 million on Monday.
