September 15 (SeeNews) - Bosnia's Serb Republic government said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese company China National Aero-Technology International Engineering Corporation (AVIC) for a potential involvement in the project for the construction of the Bileca hydro power plant (HPP).
Under the MoU, AVIC will, at its own expense, evaluate the existing documentation for the construction of the 33.5 MW HPP and carry out the necessary field analysis in order to prepare a project feasibility study and other necessary documents, the Serb Republic's government said in a statement on Thursday.
The MoU is concluded for a period of six months.
The Serb Republic's government is ready to support the company in case it is selected to build the HPP at a public call which is planned to be launched, Petar Dokic, the entity's minister of energy and mining, said in the press release.
State-owned hydro power producer Hidroelektrane na Trebisnjici (HET) holds the concession for the construction of the Bileca HPP. The concession contract signed in February 2023 was worth 127.7 million marka ($69.6 million/65.3 million euro).
In 2019, the Serb Republic government signed an agreement worth 100 million euro ($106.6 million) with AVIC for the construction of three HPPs on the river Bistrica with a total installed capacity of 45 MW.
The Serb Republic is one of two autonomous entities forming Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other one is the Federation.
