ISTANBUL (Turkey), September 29 (SeeNews) – French rail equipment and services provider Alstom Transport, part of engineering group Alstom, has started talks with potential partners in Turkey to set up a factory there for rail systems, local media reported on Monday.
In the first phase, the planned factory will manufacture products for Alstom Transport’s projects in Turkey. Over the long term, the facility will start producing equipment for the company’s projects in the region and for export to other countries, daily Dunya reported.
Alstom Transport is active in Turkey since 1950 and has carried out large projects in the country. In 2012 the company made Turkey its regional hub for the Middle East and Africa.
Alstom already has a power transformers manufacturing facility in the northwestern Turkish city of Gebze which exports 85% of its production.
