March 5 (SeeNews) - Albania’s road transport authority, DPSHTRR, said on Tuesday it has completed the installation of a photovoltaic (PV) system on the rooftop and surrounding areas of its Berat headquarters in central Albania.
The solar plant comprises 207 photovoltaic panels and has a yearly production capacity of 141 MWh, meeting around 40% of the branch’s energy needs, general director of DPSHTRR Ilir Mengra said, as seen in a video posted on Facebook by the energy ministry.
The photovoltaic panels installation costed DPSHTRR some 17 million leks ($177,000/136,000 euro), Mengra noted.
This is the pilot project of an initiative to install PV plants in all nine local headquarters of the authority across the country, in a bid to raise energy cost efficiency and lower carbon emissions.
Two photovoltaic plants at the Tirana and Durres branches are under way, Mengra added.
