May 8 (SeeNews) - Albania chose one Danish and two Belgian architect studios as the winners of an international competition to design the renovation of the football stadiums in the cities of Durres, Korca and Vlora, prime minister Edi Rama said.
Belgian architects Xaveer De Geyter (XDGA) will work out a detailed design to revamp Vlora’s Flamurtari stadium into a sports and commercial complex with a residential area and a promenade, Rama said, as seen in a video posted on the social media over the weekend.
Italy’s Fuksas and Swiss Oppenheim Architecture also presented design proposals for the Vlora stadium.
Last week, it was announced that Belgian architects 51N4E will prepare a detailed design of the Niko Dovana stadium in Durres, beating their competitors Bjarke Ingels Group of Denmark and Dutch MVRDV for the job. The project involves the design of residential areas and recreation facilities.
Danish studio Cebra Architecture has been selected to redo Korca’s Skenderbeu stadium. The project foresees turning the sports centre into a multipurpose area including business, housing and hotels.
The three winning teams will be awarded the execution design contracts after bilateral negotiations on the fees, timeframe and deliverables.
The stadiums’ reconstruction follows the model of the 2019 remake of the former Qemal Stafa Stadium in Tirana into the larger-capacity Air Albania Stadium with commercial areas and the five-star Mariott hotel.
