TIRANA (Albania), June 15 (SeeNews) – Albania’s Durres port authority said it is inviting bids in a 1.45 billion leks ($11.2 million/9.2 million euro) tender for a detailed design of a project for the construction of a new cargo port in the Porto Romano area, some 10 km north of the country’s largest port of Durres.
All commercial activities of the port of Durres are to be relocated to the new port, leaving only the passenger terminal in operationt, the port authority said in a tender notice published by Albania’s procurement agency last week.
The deadline for submitting bids in the tender is July 9. The assignment must be completed within eight months, the port authority added.
Local media reported earlier this year that Albania’s government has signed an agreement with Emirati multinational real estate development company Emaar for the construction of a marina in the existing port of Durres aimed at attracting tourists in the area.
Emaar is expected to invest up to 2 billion euro in the project that includes also the revitalisation of the current port area, Top Channel TV reported.
