TIRANA (Albania), October 6 (SeeNews) – Albania has extended the deadline for submitting bids in a tender for the construction of a 115 km long section of the Adriatic–Ionian motorway by a month, the infrastructure ministry said.
The deadline for the construction of the motorway section from Albania northern town of Milot to the southwestern city of Fier was extended to October 28 from September 28 due to the Covid-19 crisis, the ministry said in a statement last week.
The ministry said it decided to extend the deadline after assessing the extremely difficult situation, created not only in Albania but worldwide due to the Covid-19 disease which has directly affected the activity of commercial entities.
The estimated cost of the project is around 1.2 billion euro ($1.4 billion), the ministry said in the tender notice published in July.
The contract envisages the construction, operation, maintenance and transfer of the road segment Milot – Thumana – Kashar – Luzi Vogel – Fier under a 35-year public–private partnership (PPP) agreement.
The Adriatic–Ionian motorway, also known as the Blue Corridor, will stretch along the entire eastern coast of the Adriatic and Ionian seas.
