The industry's total revenue makes up 1.50% to the country's Gross domestic product (GDP) in 2018, compared to 1.47% for 2017 and 1.18% in 2016.
A total of 13,375 people were employed in the Waste collection, treatment and disposal activities; materials recovery industry in 2018, compared to 12,850 in 2017 and 14,354 in 2016.
Most of the companies in the industry are based in Sofia, followed by Varna and Plovdiv.
