July 5 (SeeNews) - Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air on Thursday announced a 68% increase of its Chisinau operations by adding a second aircraft at its local base and launching five new routes.
The new Airbus A320 aircraft will arrive in December and will bring the total investment at the Moldova base at $200 million (171 million euro), Wizz Air said in a press release.
At the same time, starting 2019, Wizz will launch five routes - rom Chisinau to Memmingen and Dortmund in Germany, Paris Beauvais in France, Copenhagen in Denmark and Brussels Charleroi in Belgium.
Also, some of the most popular services from Chisinau to London-Luton, Milan-Bergamo, Venice-Treviso, Berlin-Schoenefeld and Rome-Ciampino, will have increased weekly frequencies.
In total 17 incremental flights will be added to Wizz’s schedule from Chisinau in 2019. By increasing its operations in Chisinau, Wizz Air will create 70 direct jobs and will contribute to the employment of over 500 indirect jobs.
Wizz Air started operations from Chisinau International Airport in 2013.
In the first five months of the year, over 158,000 passengers have traveled with Wizz Air to and from Chisinau, an increase of more than 33% compared to the same period of the previous year.
