June 30 (SeeNews) - The countries of the Western Balkans will abolish roaming fees for calls within the region on July 1, a Serbian government official said on Wednesday.
"This is the last phase of the implementation of the agreement concluded in Belgrade in April 2019, and in that last phase, the implementation of which begins on July 1, we will completely abolish roaming in the Western Balkans," Milan Dobrijevic, an advisor to the minister of telecommunications, said in a video file posted on the website of Tanjug news agency.
The prices for calls, SMS messages and data traffic will be identical in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia, Dobrijevic noted.
In April 2019, the countries of the Western Balkans signed an agreement to abolish roaming charges in July 2021. Under the agreement, a transition period started on July 1, 2019, when the roaming fees for calls between Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, and North Macedonia were lowered by 27%, while for Albania the reduction was 85%.
