August 23 (SeeNews) - Austrian insurance group UNIQA said on Wednesday its pre-tax profit from operations in Albania fell to 1.3 million euro ($1.5 million) in the first half of 2017 from 2.3 million euro in the like period of last year.
Total gross written premiums from operations in Albania added 16% on the year, reaching 17.1 million euro, UNIQA said in its H1 2017 financial report.
Gross written premiums in the non-life insurance segment rose by an annual 17% to 13.2 million euro in the period under review, while premiums from life insurance grew 28% on the year to 2.8 million euro. Health insurance premiums declined 14% to 1.1 million euro.

In Southeast Europe, UNIQA also operates in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia. The group's pre-tax profit in the region - excluding Romania - rose to 6.7 million euro in the first half of 2017 from 6.2 million euro in the like period of 2016.
