May 15 (SeeNews) - Bosnia and Herzegovina's Sarajevo Canton said it has signed a contract worth 26.2 million euro ($28.5 million), VAT excluded, with a consortium comprising Turkish civil engineering companies Yapi Merkezi Insaat ve Sanayi and Yapiray Demiryolu Insaat Sistemleri Sanayi ve Ticaret for the construction of a new tram line in the capital Sarajevo.
The project involves the construction of 12.9 km of tram tracks and 20 tram stations from the suburbs of Ilidza to Hrasnica, the government of Sarajevo Canton said in a statement on Friday.
Under the terms of the deal, the construction of the tram tracks and tram stations should be completed within 18 months.
The cantonal government is financing the project with loans from the EBRD.
The Sarajevo Canton is one of ten cantons making up the Federation, one of two autonomous entities that form Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other entity is the Serb Republic.
