January 28 (SeeNews) - Tirana International Airport (TIA), which holds a concession to operate the Mother Teresa international airport in Albania's capital, said it plans to invest approximately 100 million euro ($121 million) in the improvement of the airport infrastructure.
TIA plans to expand its capacity by 6 million passengers per year, extend its runways and improve the airport infrastructure and service quality, it said in a statement on Wednesday.
The airport operator added that it will reduce the passenger tariff to 10 euro from 12.5 euro, which is expected to lead to cheaper tickets and a rise in the number of flights and destinations serviced.
TIA also said it plans to liberalise ground handling services and the aircraft fuel market.
In December, Albanian diversified group Kastrati acquired TIA from Chinese Real Fortress Private Limited for 71 million euro.
Mother Theresa is Albania's only operational international airport.
The airport served 1.3 million passengers in 2020, its website showed.
