May 24 (SeeNews) - Norwegian telecommunications group Telenor said on Wednesday it has started operating a 4G+ network in seven towns in Serbia, providing up to two and a half times faster Internet and improved quality signal to its local customers.
The new technology is already available to citizens of Serbia in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, Kragujevac, Subotica, Zrenjanin and Pancevo, covering nearly one-third of the country's population, Telenor said in a statement.
“Over half of the mobile internet in Serbia goes through the Telenor network, while on an annual level, the growth in internet use has doubled. That is why we have additionally invested in the latest 4G+ technology, which is now available to users in the largest towns of Serbia," the CEO of Telenor Serbia, Ingeborg Ofsthus, said in the statement.
The digitalisation of Serbia is among the priorities of Telenor and the company will continue to support even the most advanced requests of its customers, she noted.
In January, Telenor said it plans to invest 30 million euro ($33.6 million) in the development of its network in Serbia in 2017, with a focus on the expansion of its 4G network in towns with more than 3,500 inhabitants.
Elsewhere in Southeastern Europe, Telenor also operates in Bulgaria.
