February 23 (SeeNews) - Serbia's annual consumer price inflation slowed to 1.4% in January from 1.6% in December, data from the national statistics office showed on Thursday.
On a month-to-month basis, the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 2.4% in January, data published on the website of the national statistics office indicated.
Food prices rose by 3.1%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco grew by 2.9%, and costs for transport services went up by 1.6%.
On the other hand, prices of clothing and footwear fell by 1.1%.
Earlier this week, Serbia's central bank, NBS, said the annual inflation rate in the country is expected to remain within the band of 1.5%-4.5% until the end of 2018, as a result of the recovery of crude oil prices and the rise in domestic demand.
Serbia's annual consumer price inflation slowed to 1.2% in 2016, from 1.9% in 2015.
