October 20 (SeeNews) - Serbia's current account deficit expanded to 1.169 billion euro ($1.38 billion) in the first eight months of 2017 from 701 million euro in the same period of last year, the central bank, NBS, said on Friday.
The foreign trade deficit stood at 2.427 billion euro in January-August, while the services surplus totalled 546 million euro, the NBS said in a statement.
The primary income deficit amounted to 1.497 billion euro, whereas the surplus in secondary income came in at 2.209 billion euro in the eight months through August.
In August alone, Serbia's current account balance showed a deficit of 118 million euro versus a gap of 86 million euro a year earlier.
In 2016, Serbia's current account deficit narrowed to 1.075 billion euro from 1.751 billion euro in 2015.
