March 28 (SeeNews) - Serbia’s competition regulator said it launched a probe into an alleged abuse of dominant position by telecommunications operator Serbia Broadband (SBB), controlled by US private equity firm KKR.
After the acquisition of cable operator I.Kom d.o.o., SBB increased the monthly fee for cable TV subscribers by 100 dinars ($1.05/0.84 euro) to 1,395 dinars without presenting sufficient evidence that the hike is substantiated, the competition authority said in a statement on Tuesday.
The commission will investigate whether the price of the service was increased disproportionately, the competition regulator said.
SBB is part of United Group, a company owned by US investment firm KKR and the EBRD. It is the leading digital and analogue cable TV, broadband Internet and landline phone system operator in Serbia.
