July 30 (SeeNews) - Serbia's Belgrade city government plans to invest 50 million euro ($58.4 million) in the construction of a new bridge on the Sava river, city mayor Zoran Radojicic said.
The construction of the new bridge is expected to start in 2019, Radojicic said in a statement on Sunday.
The design project is expected to be completed by the end of this year and bids for the construction of the bridge will be invited in 2019, Radojicic said.
In January, former Belgrade mayor Sinisa Mali said the city government signed a contract for the design of the new bridge with Serbian-state owned transportation institute CIP.
The new bridge is expected to replace the Old Sava Bridge, the smallest road bridge in the Serbian capital used for both car and tram traffic.
