BELGRADE (Serbia), February 29 (SeeNews) – Serbia's parliament will dissolve on Thursday, ahead of early general elections in the country, local media reported.
In mid-January prime minister Aleksandar Vucic said he will call snap elections in an attempt to unblock reforms. The date of the elections has not been specified yet but is widely seen in late April.
"What seemed unthinkable a week ago has become practice - the MPs are holding late meetings and, unofficially, the reason for this is that the current parliament is expected to dissolve on March 3," broadcaster RTS reported late on Sunday, citing unnamed sources.
Also on Thursday a new defence minister is due to be appointed, RTS added.
Vucic has nominated the state secretary at the defence ministry, Zoran Djordjevic, for the post, to replace Bratislav Gasic who was dismissed over a sexist remark to a journalist.
