January 18 (SeeNews) - Serbia will run into trial mode by April desulphurisation facilities at units A3 to A6 of Nikola Tesla A thermal power plant (TPP), which are in the final stage of construction, the government said on Wednesday.
The construction of this plant is one of the most important ecological projects in Serbia, which will ensure cleaner air for the citizens of Obrenovac and the surrounding area and will reduce sulphur dioxide emissions to one-tenth of their current levels, energy minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said in a press release.
The plant will not only ensure reduction of the impact of harmful gases on the environment and human health, but will also provide conditions for production of gypsum from the waste as a by-product for subsequent use in the construction industry, she added.
The project has been carried out by Japan's Mitsubishi Power, with the financial support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
