May 12 (SeeNews) - Serbia will next week start the expansion of the Presevo checkpoint at the border with North Macedonia under the Open Balkan initiative, the government said on Friday.
The reconstruction will include expansion of access roads to ease traffic and reduce travel costs which will benefit international trade in the entire region, the government said in a press release, without disclosing the value of the project.
Serbia plans to complete construction works by the middle of next month, before the start of the summer tourist season.
Construction works on the North Macedonian side of the border crossing will begin on Friday.
The Open Balkan initiative is a regional cooperation programme comprising Serbia, North Macedonia and Albania for establishing a free economic zone of the three countries in which a total of 12 million people live.
