February 17 (SeeNews) - Serbia plans to start in 2024 the construction of a high-speed road linking Zrenjanin to Novi Sad and a motorway between Zrenjanin and Belgrade, infrastructure minister Goran Vesic said on Friday.
The two projects will help ease congestion on the Zrenjanin motorway and Pancevo bridge, Vesic said, as quoted in a government press release.
The construction of the motorway and high-speed road was originally planned to begin in 2020.
Serbia will invest a total 280 million euro ($298 million) in the 56-kilometre Belgrade-Zrenjanin motorway, while a further 250 million euro will be invested in the 50-kilometre Zrenjanin-Novi Sad expressway, president Aleksandar Vucic said in 2019.
The Serbian government signed a contract with China's Shandong Hi-Speed Group (SDHS) for the construction of the motorway in January 2020.
