January 27 (SeeNews) - Serbia's environment ministry will launch a tender for the sale of 350,000 old railway sleepers for 6.8 million euro ($7.6 million), state-owned company Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije said.
The wooden sleepers are classified as hazardous waste in Serbia, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
The dismantling and sale of the sleepers is part of a broader project to remove 435 km of unused rail tracks in the next two years.
Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije was an infrastructure asset management branch of Serbian Railways until it unbundled into three separate companies in 2015.
