April 24 (SeeNews) - Serbian state-owned company Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije has signed a framework agreement for the overhaul of a railway line linking Belgrade to the North Macedonian border with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), it said on Wednesday.
The contract is for the design, delivery and execution of works on certain sections of the railway line linking Belgrade to the town of Presevo, on the Serbian side of the border, Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije said in a statement.
A total of 600 million euro ($672.5 million) will be invested in the reconstruction of sections with a total length of 198 km linking Belgrade to Nis and 160 million euro will be put in the overhaul of the 88 km Nis-Presevo section, Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije said.
"We will define with the Chinese partners a detailed scope of activities, the specific obligations and deadlines for the completion of the technical and economic Study, and the value of the project will be determined in the framework of commercial contracts that we will sign in stages, for each individual section," the managing director of Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije, Miroljub Jevtic, said in the statement.
The Belgrade-Presevo railway line is part of Corridor X which will facilitate the traffic of goods from Greece's Piraeus port to Central Europe, the Serbian company said. Corridor X will connect Salzburg in Austria to the Greek Aegean port of Thessaloniki, passing through Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and North Macedonia.
