July 11 (SeeNews) - Serbian state-run airport operator Aerodromi Srbije expects regular flights at the Morava airport to be launched in October at the earliest, the company's general manager Mihajlo Zdravkovic said.
"The most optimistic expectations are that some regional routes can be launched during the winter schedule, in October," Zdravkovic said in a video file posted on the website of BBC's Serbian language section earlier this week.
However, Aerodromi Srbije would be happy if the first regular flights are launched in the summer of 2020, Zdravkovic added.
Morava airport opened for international civil aviation operations last month. The government invested 8.5 million euro ($9.6 million) in the overhaul of the Morava military airport, enabling the handling of flights of ATR-72 and Boeing 737 aircraft.
Earlier this month, Serbia's infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said the government plans to start the construction of a new runway at the Morava airport next year.
Aerodromi Srbije, a newly established state-owned company in charge of the management, development and maintenance of all Serbian airports, started operations in the first half of February. The company's first task was to open Morava for civil aviation operations following a 10 million euro conversion of the military air base into a civilian airport.
