January 23 (SeeNews) - Serbia has completed a 6 million euro ($6.8 million) project for the overhaul of a water treatment plant in Uzice, in the west of the country, infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said.
The project was completed on December 5 and now the Uzice local government needs to launch a procedure to launch operations at the Petar Antonijevic water treatment plant under a test mode, Mihajlovic said in a statement on Tuesday.
In March, the infrastructure ministry said it signed a 310 million dinars ($3.0 million/2.6 million euro) agreement with construction company Jedinstvo [BEL:JESV] for the second and final phase of the modernisation of the water purification plant, including the installation of active coal water filtering technology, which completely eliminates the influence of algae and enables the safe use of water from the Vrutci artificial lake.
The Serbian government invested 400 million dinars in the first phase of the overhaul of the plant, which was completed in 2017. The works involved the installation of equipment that guaranteed the constant supply of potable water to Uzice, the infrastructure ministry noted.
