February 3 (SeeNews) - Romania's retail sales rose by 8.9% in 2015, the statistics office, INS, said on Wednesday.
Retail sales in 2015 were mainly fuelled by a 19.1% growth in food sales on the year, driven by a 5 percentage points cut in value-added tax on food items, introduced in June, INS said in a statement. Fuel sales grew 5.8% and non-food item sales grew 2.8% in 2015, the data showed.
In December alone, retail sales increased by 15.5% on the year, INS said in a statement. Based on seasonally and working-day adjusted data, retail sales climbed 13% on the year in December.
Based on seasonally and working-day adjusted data, retail sales climbed 0.6% on the month in December.
The figures do not include trade with motor vehicles and motorcycles.
