June 24 (SeeNews) - Romania's economy will not be affected by the UK's exit from the European Union, but the event could provide new opportunities for the country's development, president Klaus Iohannis said on Friday.
Iohannis noted he had received the assurance of prime minister Dacian Ciolos that the Brexit impact on the Romanian economy is not high and there is no reason for concern.
"I requested and received information from the National Bank Governor that the impact on the national currency is small and manageable. Our currency will have no problems," Iohannis added.
Also, the president said that the event holds important opportunities for Romania and that the entire political class will take care that Romania and the EU emerge strengthened from this crisis.
Following consultations with the main parties that took place today, the president said that there is a clear consensus that Romania should stick to the European path.
The president insisted that UK's exit from the EU will be a long process in which Romania will negotiate in such way that Romanians that live and work in the UK remain unaffected.
