February 14 (SeeNews) - Romania's annual consumer price inflation quickened to 4.3% in January from 3.3% in December, reaching a five-year high, the national statistical office, INS, said on Wednesday.
Food prices rose 3.79% year-on-year in January, while non-food prices were up 6.23%, INS said in a statement.
Prices of services rose by 0.9% year-on-year in January.
On a monthly comparison basis, Romania's consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.8% in January, as food prices climbed 0.64%, non-food prices increased by 1.08% and prices of services rose 0.32%.
On Friday, Romania's central bank BNR increased its annual inflation forecast for this year to 3.5% from 3.2%. BNR kept unchanged its 2019 inflation forecast of 3.1% made in November.
On February 7, BNR increased its monetary policy rate to 2.25% from a previous 2.0% - the second rate hike in as many months.
