November 18 (SeeNews) - Romania’s agriculture ministry said that the government approved a 365.6 million lei ($76.74 million/74.21 million euro) aid scheme for farmers whose crops were affected by drought over 2021.
Compensations will be drawn from the state budget and will be distributed as unitary financial grants of up to 1,500 lei per ha, for up to 100% crop damage, the ministry of agriculture said in a press release on Thursday.

Over 16,000 farmers have been affected by the pedological drought, while roughly 250,000 ha of crops have incurred damages between 30% and 100% in the fall of 2021.
The compensations amount to 40% of eligible expenses, respectively a maximum of 40% of the technological expenses provided for in the framework technologies for crops from the 2021-2022 harvest.
In October, the ministry of agriculture submitted a final draft of its 15.8 billion euro ($16.34 billion) Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) national strategic plan for 2023-2027 to the European Commission (EC).
Under the plan, some 6 billion euro will be invested in agriculture and rural development, while 9.78 billion euro will be used to subsidise farmers.
