September 28 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu weakened versus the euro on Friday in high volumes, dealers said.
The local currency closed at 4.5340/5370 per euro compared to 4.5154/4.5204 on Thursday.
"The leu opened at 4.52 and depreciated to an intraday low of 4.54 per euro amid high commercial flows typical for the end of month," a local dealer told SeeNews.
Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.5331 lei per euro on Friday, compared to 4.5140 lei on Thursday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set the reference exchange rate at 3.5029 lei versus 3.5131 lei on Thursday.
Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market fell to 1.06 billion lei on Thursday from 1.2 billion lei on Wednesday. The central bank will issue Friday's turnover figure on Monday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits decreased to 4.43%/4.93% on Friday from 4.59%/5.09% on Thursday.
