September 14 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu closed stronger versus the euro on Monday in a trading session with reduced volatility, dealers said.
The leu ended at 4.2720/2750 per euro, compared to 4.2800/2830 per euro on Friday.
“The leu was traded in line with the regional sentiment. There were no aggressive movements in the rate and volumes were a little bit higher than average,” one dealer told SeeNews.
He sees no big changes in the leu’s exchange rate this week.
The Romanian central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.2747 per euro on Monday, compared to 4.2552 per euro on Friday. For the U.S. dollar, the BNR set the reference exchange rate at 2.9410 versus Friday’s 2.9159.
Turnover on the interbank leu deposit market rose to 2.597 billion lei on Friday from 1.952 billion lei on Thursday. The BNR will issue Monday’s turnover figures on Tuesday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits grew to 8.06%/8.56% on Monday from 7.70%/8.20% on Friday.
