November 13 (SeeNews) - Romania's pharmaceuticals market rose by 15.3% to 7.83 billion lei ($2.7 billion/1.8 billion euro) in the twelve months to September 30, 2009, a survey by market research company Cegedim Romania showed on Friday.
The driving force behind the market growth were retail sales, which accounted for 87.3% of total sales over the review period, the survey showed.
The local drug market expanded by 12.2% on the year to 2.0 billion lei in the three months to September.
In the twelve months ended September 30, 2009, Swiss Hoffmann La Roche led the market in terms of sales value with an 8.6% share, followed by France’s Sanofi-Aventis with 6.7% and Britain’s GSK with 6.6%. Swiss Novartis ranked fourth with a market share of 6.0%.
Local drug makers Terapia Ranbaxy, Zentiva S.A. and Antibiotice had market shares of 4.2%, 3.6% and 2.6%, respectively.
