March 12 (SeeNews) - The Romanian public roads authority, CNADNR, said on Thursday it has signed a 179.8 million lei ($43 million/40.5 million euro) contract for the construction of a motorway stretch in the central county of Mures with a local consortium.
The consortium, made up of three companies - Lemacons, Vega 93 and Arcada - will build a motorway stretch linking Targu Mures to Ungheni, part of the key Transilvania motorway, CNADNR said in a statement.
The value of the contract is net of value added tax. The project will be 85%-financed through EU cohesion funds.
The 60-month contract envisages 12 months for construction works and a 48-month guarantee period.
Transilvania highway, 415 kilometres-long, starts from Brasov before crossing the northwestern county of Cluj and reaching the Romanian-Hungarian border at Bors. Romania awarded a contract for the construction of the Transilvania motorway to U.S. company Bechtel in 2004 but later cancelled it.
Romania, with an area of some 238,400 sq km and a population of 20.1 million, has a network of motorways of just around 700 km.
